+Faith Oyedepo: Setting goals
Dear Reader,Happy New Year to you! I am so honoured sharing God’s mind with you in this New Year; it is such a privilege that I can never take lightly. To God alone be all the glory forever! I know your expectations for this year is at top gear already and you feel positive about the great things God has in store for you.
It is my earnest prayer that every desire of your heart this year shall be manifested in the name of Jesus Christ! The year is still fresh, and at this time a lot of expectations, goals, and rules might have been set. However, in reality, how many people sincerely keep to their words? How many goals set in time past has been realised? How many people can actually bring out their list and thick all or most of it as achieved? This is why this article is essential at this time of the year.It is the beginning of a new year; so, I shall be discussing with you on how to set realisable and achievable goals. The Bible says: For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? (Luke 14:28).
What is Goal Setting?
To identify what goal setting is, we must first understand what a goal is. Most of the time, people don’t see their goals realised because they actually do not understand what a goal is. So, they set unrealistic targets and expect it to manifest.A goal is a future achievement with a time frame you can work with. It is an aim or a purpose that most be achieved. It can also be a thought or an ideal that you intend to make real. With these above definitions, we must understand that goals are not achieved on their own and they are not ambitions; they entail work, efforts from you to make them work. But, how do you make your goals work? This is where goal setting comes in. Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about what you stand to achieve in the nearest future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality. The process of setting goals helps you choose what direction you should go within a stipulated period of time. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. You can also quickly spot possible distractions that might divert your attention. It is written:Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: (Proverbs 24:3)To accomplish your goals, however, you need to know how to set them. You can’t simply want a particular thing and expect it to happen. Goal setting is a process that starts with careful consideration of what you want to achieve, and ends with a lot of hard work to actually do it. In between there are some very well defined steps that transcend the specifics of each goal. Knowing these steps will allow you to formulate goals that you can achieve.
Why Set Goals?
It helps your Focus: It gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It helps you to organize your time and your resources so you can make the very most of your life. By setting clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals.
It helps you stay committed: Without commitment, it is impossible to achieve what you have set to do (Proverbs 22:29). However, when your goals are well defined, it boosts your commitment towards achieving it, especially if they are goals you are passionate about.
It makes it clear for you to run with: Well defined and written goals provide direction and a sense of purpose to what you want to achieve …Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it (Habakkuk 2:2).
Setting and accomplishing your goals is mostly achievable through the help of the Holy Spirit. However, the Holy Spirit only helps those who are bonafide children of God. To be a bonafide child of God, you must be born again. This means you must have confessed Jesus as Lord and Saviour of your life.If you have not done this before, or may have strayed from your decision to make Jesus the only Lord over your life, then you must say this prayer in faith:
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name!
